This is the current and diverse beer list in the Rising Sun. Don't forget, the Riser also does a fantastic range of wines, spirits and more esoteric aperitifs!
DRAUGHT BEERS
ALES
A light quaffing beer with a good hop flavour and aroma. 7% Crystal malt with Worcester and Styrian Golding hops. Voted Best Standard Bitter S.E England 2004.
A more robust, malty beer with a balanced hop flavour, a true best bitter. The same hops as Surrey but a higher percentage of these and 10% Crystal malt.
Check the pumps or ask our bar staff. You never know what we might have hiding away!
LAGERS
Both beers are imported by Pilgrim and have been "lagered" for a minimum of six weeks. This slow cold storage smoothes and naturally clears the beer. Simply pure, fresh beer, definitely no additives.
A delicate beer brewed in Schonram, a tiny village in the foothills of the Alps. Now no longer only available at the Riser as its' quality has been recognised by a TV chef!
Brewed in Augsburg the local brewing laws date back to 1250. This premium beer has a soft bitterness typical of Bavarian lagers.
WHEATBEER
Pale Bavaria wheatbeer tasting of banana and vanilla with a hint of bubblegum . Highly refreshing.
Brewed by gnomes in deepest Belgium this is a truly splendid beer to eradicate problems of the day. Very rare to find this beer on draught. Enjoy! And that goes for the girls as well as the boys!
STOUT
Imported from Ireland this is a deep flavoured chocolate/coffee stout. Cool but not chilled Lovely!
CIDER
Imported by ourselves this cider is guaranteed to be made from only Normandy apples. No Canadian apple pulp or sugar added as with better known brands!
Available in handful of top restaurants over there and the Riser over here!

Austria
Lovely clean crisp beer
One of the strongest beers in the world.. It When maturing in ancient cellars for 9 months it turns amber. Full-bodied and creamy flavour, well balanced with hop bitterness it is known as the "Cognac of beers".
Bavaria
The classic traditional wheatbeer. Dark with a spicy clove flavour as well as the banana and vanilla.
Deep malt with a clove/figgy/raisin like fruitiness
Our only smoked beer. Brewed in the spiritual home of brewing, Bamberg, this beer is said to taste great after the third pint! Very unusual but highly addictive!

Belgium
Trappist
A new Trappist brewery creating only 1000 pints a week. The blonde is a straw coloured "tripel" and has very fine carbonation and an understated style.
ChimayDry, aromatic beer whose drinkability belies its strength. Light acidity in the finish
Great depth of complex flavours, spice and fruit from the hops and yeast. Port-like character.
Trappist beer whose colour derives from their own malt, the sprightly, slightly acidic freshness comes from a secondary fermentation with wild yeast. A classic.
Dry but rich with sweet tea and fig notes.
Light auburn colour with a persistent head and lots of lacing. The aroma is lightly hoppy with a well balanced sweet malt
Brewed as an ale but made with pale lager malts and saaz hops. The original triple, first brewed in 1948
Has a very yeasty nose, with dark roast malt and caramel, and a high-rise, fairly tenacious head that follows the beer to the end of the glass
Abbey Beers
A golden blond beer, aromatic and deceptively strong.
This "devil of a beer" is very delicate and fragrant. Savour but beware!
A chocolaty fruit palate with some phenolic complexity, and a brown sugar sweetness balanced by warming alcohol and restrained hops.
A triple ale with a colour of golden plums, very delicate aroma, nutty, clean maltiness, and a drying finish reminiscent of garden mint.
Stimulo is a golden triple with a palate that develops from peachy fruitiness to a lemony, hoppy dryness.
Sweetish Abbey triple.Deep golden/amber colour and lovely citrus with hints of toffee and butterscotch.
A Flemish red "sour" ale. You either love or hate it!
Wheatbeers in the Belgian "wit" style flavoured with a choice of fruits. Passion Fruit / Strawberry/ Cherry Honey / Apple/Ninkeberry (mixed fruits including mango)
Traditionally served with a lemon slice this is delicately flavoured with coriander seeds and orange peel.
LiefmansA deeply complex blend of young and old beer aged between 4 and 12 months in the cellars of Oudenaarde.
The Kreik is made by adding cherries to Goudenband and resting for six months. These beers contain 30% raw wheat which with the wild yeast) fermentation gives the beer a light slightly acidic and refreshing feel.
LindemansLove blackcurrants? Love this!
Peach beer based on the lambic style Pecheresse translates as "a sinful lady". A champagne beer as well!
Corsica
Brewed in the witbeer style and flavoured with local herbs the "maquis"
Czech Republic
Quality hoppiness with medium dry bitterness bitterness

Germany
Fresh, light malt beers with a hint lemon
A classic of the Dusseldorf Alt style. Warm fermented like an English ale but served cold.
The best of the low-alcohol beers we could find. Mix with Surtaler for a low strength but high quality pint.
Netherlands
An excellent pilsner from a small brewery in Holland.
U.S.A
Goose Island BrewerySpicy hop aroma and good malt character
American I.P.A with a powerful fruity hop aroma.
Sierra NevadaA more restrained hop aroma but higher bitterness than the Goose Island I.P.A. Huge Cascade hop flavour.
